In this study, we employed a special sol-gel method to prepare NaGd(MoO4)2 powder by calcining the precursor mixture, and the fluorescence properties as well as thermal sensitivity were investigated. Analysis based on XRD, SEM and energy transfer modes revealed that the enhancement in temperature sensitivity resulted from the increased distance between the sensitizer and activator ions as well as changes in crystallinity, compared with normal sol-gel method. By optimizing the doping of rare earth ions, the highest sensitivity reached 3.34 %K-1. Additionally, fluorescence spectra analysis of NaGd (MoO4)2 samples synthesized via different methods demonstrated that energy transfer between the sensitizer and activator ions can be achieved through high-temperature calcination. Moreover, LiGd(MoO4)2 samples prepared using the unique sol-gel method exhibited similar enhancements in temperature sensitivity as NaGd(MoO4)2 powder. Herein, a series of twistacenes have been designed and synthesized with the assistant from a theoretical analysis based on the morphology of the natural transition orbitals of first excited state. These twistacenes exhibit two photon absorption and unique broadband excited singlet state absorption features, which is systematically confirmed by transient absorption spectra, two-photon excited fluorescence and z-scan experiments. The overlap of two-photon absorption band with excited state absorption band can improve the OL performance. The experimental results are consistent with theoretical prediction, which confirm the rationalization of molecular design strategy. The screened twistacene 5 exhibits excellent optical limiting behavior with extremely high transmittance and low threshold, where the threshold is 1.3-3.1 mJ/cm2 in a wide optical window from 532 nm to 900 nm in femtosecond regime and 69 mJ/cm2 in picosecond regime. We investigate the plasmon characteristics and strong field enhancement near the sharp tips of gold nanostars and demonstrate surface-enhanced nonlinear absorption properties. Gold nanostars show saturable absorption (SA) under laser excitation at 700 nm and 750 nm, while reverse saturable absorption (RSA) is found in the range of 500 nm to 650 nm. The saturation intensity reaches the minimum value (0.4 MW/cm2) when the incident wavelength resonates to the SPR peak. In comparison with other plasmon nanostructures, gold nanostars have extraordinarily higher modulation depth up to 53%, which means that they have outstanding SA characteristic. Here, we first discover and explore the multiple transformations (SA-RSA-SA) of ultrafast nonlinear absorption behavior of metal nanoparticles in femtosecond pulses. Correspondingly, the energy level model and fitting formula of multiple transformations are established to illustrate the process of optical response. The femtosecond transient absorption spectra provide information about their ultrafast dynamics process and vibrational mode, which further reveals the multiple transformation mechanisms of nonlinear absorption in gold nanobipyramids (Au-NBPs). Furthermore, Au-NBPs exhibit a significantly higher SA modulation depth up to 42% in the femtosecond, which is much higher than the reported values of other nanomaterials. Under Fresnel approximation, an axial intensity formula is obtained, which is used to analyze the focal performance in the far field zone of lens. The relative focal shift is totally dependent on the Fresnel number only. The influences of the lens size, preset focal length and incident wavelength can be attributed to the change of Fresnel number. The total phase difference of the lens is approximately equal to the Fresnel number multiplied by pi. Numerical simulations performed using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and near-far field transformation method are in agreement with the theoretical analysis. Excited by 532-nm laser pulses with 21-ps duration, the temporal response of nondegenerate nonlinear absorption and nondegenerate nonlinear refraction are probed by laser pulses from optical parameter generation (OPG) at 600 and 680 nm with pulse width of 10 ps. Based on the theory of free-carrier optical nonlinearity, we study the pure free-carrier refraction in ZnS. By numerically fitting based on the nondegenerate pump-probe theory, the nondegenerate two-photon absorption coefficient, the free-carrier lifetime, the free-carrier absorptive cross section and refractive coefficient at both probe wavelengths are determined respectively. By the two techniques, we confirmed that the nonlinear absorption of CS2 arise from a combination of two-photon absorption (TPA) and the excited state absorption induced by TPA under the incident laser pulses with 400 nm wavelength. The coefficient of TPA, the absorption cross-section of low excited state and lifetime of low excited state were obtained by theoretical fitting the experimental results. It is found that the effect of optical bistability in the structure is explained by the excitations of the coupled surface plasmon polaritons at the coated metallic films. The effect of thickness of the metallic films on bistability loop is analyzed in detail, and the authors attribute the change of the bistability loop to the lifetime of the coupled surface plasmon polaritons.
