综合介绍 General Introduction After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in 2010, Prof. Fiaz Ahmad completed his MPhil-Biotechnology from NIBGE Faisalabad, a constituent institute of PIEAS Islamabad, Pakistan in 2014, where he was awarded an Outstanding Research Award/Best Paper Award of the year from HEC, the government of Pakistan (2015). Then he took up a fully funded Chinese government PhD scholarship in the School of Life Sciences (SLS) of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi’an, China (2016), & completed his PhD Biomedical Engineering (Applied Microbiology) in 2020. During PhD, he has conferred the Excellent International Doctoral Student Awards of the year 2017-2018, 2018-2019, & Outstanding Doctoral Graduate Student Award (2020). His PhD work was admired at the international forum & appreciated with Best Paper Award at 5th World Congress on New Technologies (NewTech’19), Held in Lisbon, Portugal (2019). Afterwards, he engaged in postdoctoral research (2020-2022) in the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea, Hainan University, during which time he was awarded a Fellowship of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. There he filed 10 patents and won two research grants, one from “The Provincial Government of Hainan Province - Hainan Free Trade Port Talent Network”, China, & the second from “China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (CPSF)” as PI, as well as two grants as a participant. To date, he has published 26 papers in internationally well-reputed peer-reviewed journals such as Trends Microbiol - Cell Press, J Hazard Mat, Crit Rev Microbiol, Appl Microbiol Biotechnol, J Environ Manage, Cryst Growth Des, Mater Sci Eng -C, CrystEngComm, etc., with more than 513 citations, h-index 10, i10-index 11 (google scholar), & cumulative I.F. 148.309. In January 2023, Dr. Fiaz Ahmad Joined SLS of NPU as Associate Professor.Prof. Fiaz is interested in interdisciplinary challenges involving Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Synthetic Biology to elucidate how these domains improve interactions between microbe-microbe and microbe-environment for bioremediation of polluted waters and green recovery of precious minerals/metals for environmental sustainability and circular economy. 个人相册

科学研究 Scientific Research Research Interests:I am interested in interdisciplinary challenges involving Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Synthetic Biology to elucidate how these domains make the reclamation of polluted waters, green recovery of precious non-renewable minerals/metals in cost and energy-efficient way that lead us towards a sustainable environment and circular economy. In particular, I am interested in;·       Microbial upcycling of metals & minerals.·       Metal-protein interaction via protein crystallization.·       Synthesis and applications of metallic nanoparticles.·       Bacteria-microalgae interaction under special environments.·       Discovery and application of antimicrobials.·       Production of biomedical & industrial value-added products.·       Biodegradation/bioremediation of polluted environments.We aimed to translate research in academia into an environmental and industrially useable platform for resource recovery, environment sustainability, production of bio-based chemicals and biomaterials, and understanding microbe-microbe interactions under extreme/special environments by exploiting state-of-the-art analytical, molecular, and omics approaches.Research Grants (PI):2024-2025:    Solar-powered, sustainable microbial mining of Li, Co, REE, and CO2 for sustainable environment and economy, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), China.2023-2024:   A solar-powered photobioreactor based on bacteria-microalgae synergy for wastewater resource recovery, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi'an, China2021-2022:      Development of microalgae-microbiome mediated floating island technology for the removal and recovery of HMs from water.
