He worked as a research fellow at the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and has been working in the field of membrane technology for more than 16 years. His research focuses on membrane process simulation and optimization, membrane module/spacer design, novel membrane fabrication, advanced techniques for membrane characterization (e.g., Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography), and novel methods for fouling and concentration polarization control. His work has yields about 30 peer-reviewed papers (total citations: 1023, h-index: 16) and two patents approved by the US and Singapore. He is the PI of a general program supported by NSFC and the co-PI of an innovation-group program supported by Guangdong province. He has been doing research and working in the fields of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering for about twenty years. His expertise is in membrane separations, seawater desalination, water treatment, separation and purification for biological and medical engineering, and others. His research focuses on novel characterization techniques for membrane processes, mathematical simulations of membrane separations, membrane materials and fabrication methods, membrane module design and optimization, and membrane-based applications. He was the co-PI or team leader of about ten projects in China, USA, and Singapore. He published more than twenty peer-reviewed papers and was the reviewer for several journals, including Applied Energy, Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, J. of Membrane Science, and others.
